Wowza! I'm thru the 2nd chapter in this book and I can totally see why it's still a best seller. The examples that Carnegie gives are examples that we will always be able to use. Being the older one in the class these are things I have learned from reading other books on attitude and such.
It was a great reminder that you get back what you give out! I often times tell my kids to think before you speak. It's one of our cardinal rules. It's that old insert the foot in the mouth syndrome and not just something I remind them about but myself as well. I have caught myself, being a parent, constantly on top of my girls. Expecting more from them and not remember they are 5 & 7. I anticipate this book to be one of those I read over and over in years to come.
I can totally appreciate the things he speaks in this book. I got carried away and thought we were supposed to only read one chapter but read thru chapter 2. And I'm almost positive I will finish the book this week! HA
I think this book is beneficial for the younger crowds and all AGES. I have heard most of these things before but I can almost bet you alot of the younger ones have not. I only wish I had read this early on but I say that about alot of books along the same line. As a mom, I constantly buy those books wrote by other moms or dads on accountability and the things they have learned through parenting. It's a great pick me up when things get hectic and it helps me to stay grounded.
My favorite quote was the title of chapter 1, "If you want to gather HONEY, don't kick over the BEEHIVE". I'm dealing with a little personal matter and I felt like this statement totally applied! I hope all these kids in the class really do read this text and re-read in the future because I know I will.

Questions about where I'm headed?!
I did meet with Vaughn last week and it helped tremendously, giving me more direction on what my plans are in the future. I had initailly been contemplating interning with the local newspaper but with his opinion I have decided against this.
Even though it's not my ultimate goal (photoj) I thought it might open the specturm of my knowledge base but V pointed out that the papers are diffusing as we speak. My goal is to TEACH and continue with grad school.
Soooooo I'm set for graduation Fall of 2012 and I will use this class to work on the portfolio I will submit to get into the photo grad prgm @ A&M. I will also use my internship to intern with a college professor, possibly Paul Bryan.
In the meantime as I said I will be working on my outside portfolio outside of my portrait business. I do love to shoot people and I do have a growing business in Paris that's been going since 2008 but that will not be what I submit to get me into grad school. So why not use this opportunity and V's cc to help?!
I am still contemplating my series or just what I want to shoot. I haven't had alot of time to actually shoot what I want in some time. And I feel like I can't just make that decision over the weekend since I met and talked with Vaughn.
But I will continue to research new contemporary photographers! Milano gave us a name of a grad student who is based out of Texas to check out. It was a perfect start to see what others are shooting and what their personal projects mean to them. Within my research, I hope to figure out what it is that interests me. I love textures but as V said, I have to come up with some kind of project with depth, meaning, and inspiration!
My charge is to continue to do this throughout the semester! I will have my one man show @ the local coffee shop here in Paris and it will probably be in Dec so that I have time to start this new project. I'm excited about the things to come.
Since I already have a business my obvious goal after graduation is to get into grad school. I want my masters and have since I started back to college 4yrs ago. I hope to teach some day and I hope it's all in God's time!
Here are a few images I did over the summer........
